Pokémon is going mobile with an all-new game developed for Android and iOS smartphones. Pokémon Go isn’t the first Pokémon title to come out on mobile devices, but it’s by far the most unusual as players collect and battle Pokémon by exploring the real world. In a press conference, The Pokémon Company and collaborators Niantic explained the concept as well as introducing the additional Pokémon Go Plus feature – a Nintendo-built Bluetooth device that gives you a presence in the Pokémon Go world without having to actively use your phone.

The device, which looks like a Pokéball combined with a Google Maps marker pin, has a built-in LED light and a vibration function that will notify players that something important is happening in the game. So if a virtual Pikachu is hanging out in your local train station, your watch will buzz and flash to notify you that there’s a Pokémon ready to be captured on your commute.

Pokémon GO is a wonderful combination of Niantic’s real world gaming platform and one of the most beloved franchises in popular culture…Our partnership with The Pokémon Company and Nintendo is an exciting step forward in real-world gaming and using technology to help players discover the world and people around them.
